The concept

WHAT MAKES A LAPTOP DIFFERENT FROM A DESKTOP

Laptops pack full computing capability into a portable chassis, which demands different components. RAM uses the SO-DIMM form factor — physically shorter than desktop DIMM — so it fits in tight spaces. Storage connects through M.2 slots that support either the older SATA protocol (up to 600 MB/s) or the faster NVMe/PCIe protocol (over 5,000 MB/s on current drives). The key notch on the M.2 slot determines which protocols are wired.

BATTERY AND DISPLAY

Laptop batteries use lithium-ion chemistry. The best practice is to keep charge between 20% and 80%, avoiding full charges or complete discharges that stress the cell chemistry and reduce the total lifespan. Display types vary: IPS panels provide accurate color and wide viewing angles; TN panels respond faster at lower cost; OLED delivers perfect blacks because each pixel emits its own light.

MOBILE DEVICE CONNECTORS

USB-C became the universal standard after the EU mandated it for phones sold in Europe and Apple adopted it for iPhone 15+. It carries data, power (up to 240W with USB PD), and video over one reversible cable. Older Apple devices use Lightning; legacy Android used Micro-USB. USB-A is the host port on chargers, not a phone connector.

MOBILE PROCESSORS AND OPERATING SYSTEMS

NFC operates at 13.56 MHz with a maximum range of about 4 cm; its primary use is tap-to-pay transactions where proximity itself confirms intent.

Diagnosis: 550 MB/s indicates a SATA M.2 drive (SATA III cap). Check the slot key type — if B+M, a SATA drive is present. If the motherboard also supports PCIe on that slot, upgrading to an NVMe drive could yield 10× faster reads. Confirm in the laptop manual before purchasing.
Example 2: A user's iPhone 15 will not charge with their old Lightning cable. Resolution: iPhone 15 switched to USB-C. The Lightning cable is incompatible. Replace with a USB-C cable. Note: any USB-C cable will charge; for full data speed, use USB 3.x rated cable.
